But you are completely correct. Andromeda and the Milky Way are headed straight for each other. As it stands right now you can actually see the Andromeda galaxy with your naked eye. The catch is it has to be during the right season, in the right hemisphere, and a place with little to no light pollution.

Another fun fact, with the exception of Andromeda, every single point of light you see in the night sky is a star in the Milk Way galaxy. In other words you can't actually see a single light source out side of our own galaxy without the use of binoculars or telescopes .

Sorry if thats info overload but that's what working at a planetarium does to ya .
